Where are my recordings stored?
Personal-journal recordings, transcripts, and analyses are stored on your iPhone in the App's encrypted local storage. They are not kept on our servers. Shared-journal entries are stored on our backend (Firebase) so the people you invited can sync them across devices, and stay there until you delete them.
How do shared journals work?
You can create a journal and invite specific people to it. Each participant can record entries inside that journal, and every participant can see, listen to, and download every entry in it. Shared-journal content is stored on our backend so it can sync across devices. You decide which journal an entry goes into when you record it. Voice Journal does not have public feeds or public profiles — the only people who can see your shared content are the participants you've invited.
If I leave a shared journal, do my entries go with me?
No — leaving the journal does not automatically remove your entries from the other participants. If you want your entries removed for everyone, delete them yourself before you leave. (You can also delete individual entries any time.)
Will my voice be used to train AI?
No. We do not use your voice or your transcripts to train AI models, and our providers (ElevenLabs for transcription and OpenAI for analysis) operate under terms that prohibit training on your data.
What happens if I delete the App?
Deleting the App removes all locally stored personal-journal content from your device. Anything you previously published to a shared journal stays in that shared journal until you (or another authorised participant) deletes it. The anonymous account record on our backend may remain — write to us and we'll remove it for you.
Can I use Voice Journal without an internet connection?
Recording and playback work offline. Transcription, AI analysis, voiced summaries, and shared-journal sync need a network connection because they're processed by our cloud providers.
What languages does Voice Journal support?
The interface is in English. Transcription supports many languages — you can speak in any supported language and a transcript in that language will be produced.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, tap Voice Journal, and Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
I lost my entries when I switched phones — what now?
Personal-journal content lives on your device for privacy reasons and does not transfer automatically. Before changing devices, use the Export option in the App to back up your archive, or restore from an iCloud device backup that includes the App's data. Shared-journal entries are on our backend and reappear automatically once you sign back in with the same Apple ID.
The transcript got something wrong — can I edit it?
Yes. Tap any entry, then tap the transcript area to edit it like a regular note. Mood and theme tags are also editable.
How do I restore purchases on a new device?
Open Settings inside the App and tap Restore Purchases. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID that bought the subscription, your entitlement will be restored.
